Virginia “Ginny” Simmons, 54, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2005 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 21, 2005 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, October 21, 2005 from 1 until 2 PM at McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the United Cerebral Palsy, 1660 L Street NW Ste. 700, Washington, DC 20036.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Greenville, Pennsylvania. She was of the Episcopal faith. She worked for eighteen years in civil service at Robins Air Force Base and served in the United States Army. Mrs. Simmons graduated from Fitchburg State Massachusetts where she received her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hawkinsville. Her son, Jason Simmons and father, William Vargo, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, John Simmons, Hawkinsville; mother, Viola Vargo, Spokane, Washington; brother, William Vargo, Spokane, Washington; sister, Karen O’Neal, Conyers; nieces, Joanne Alford, Grayson; Cathryn O’Neal, Sandy Springs; nephews, Jimmy Muthart, Snellville; Timothy Vargo, Indiana; and William Vargo, Illinois.
