On the morning of Thursday, April 7, 2022, Walter J. “Walt” Schubert, Jr. passed away at home after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was 69 years old. Walt was born in St. Louis, MO on April 18, 1952, the son of the late Dorothy and Walter John Schubert, Sr. He was the co-owner of Lee’s Rental Center in Warner Robins.
Walt moved with his family in the 1960s to Warner Robins to open Lee’s Rental Center. He graduated from Warner Robins High School, Middle Georgia College, Mercer University, and Georgia College, collecting a double major bachelor’s degree summa cum laude and two master’s degrees summa cum laude. Walt loved the ocean. In his spare time, he enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, and deep-sea fishing. Walt and Mary Anne spent much time traveling, including to their favorite spots, Hawaii and Lake Tahoe. After retirement, he spent many active years in the Master Gardeners of Central Georgia, with many hours spent at Grace Village in Perry, GA. He was fortunate to see his two favorite sports teams reach the pinnacle in success the same year, the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lisa Schubert and Jo Ann Jones; and sister-in-law, Jana Johnson Schubert.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Anne Schubert of Kathleen; siblings, Jeannett Knight of St. Louis, MO, Ted Schubert (Shannon) of Freeport, FL; brother-in-law, Gary Jones of St. Louis, MO; nieces and nephews, Amy and Becky Knight of St. Louis, MO, Morgan Walker (Cody) of Perry, GA, Erin Delanty (Tim) of St. Louis, MO, Sean Schubert of Warner Robins, Jackson Schubert of Freeport, FL and Mark Jones (Kim) of St. Louis, and four great-nieces and nephews, as well as his cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Pond, 2407 Moody Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
