Walter John Schubert, Sr. of Warner Robins passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013.
Walt was born on June 11, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late John and Ida Schubert. He grew up in the Southampton neighborhood of St. Louis and loved to tell stories about his early years there. Walt served in the Coast Guard before entering the US Navy pilot training program. After the war, he became a St. Louis City Firefighter. He retired in 1966, and with his brother, established Lee's Rental Center in Warner Robins.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family, loved traveling, and was a master handyman when it came to fixing things.
Walt was the loving husband of the late Dorothy Glanzman Schubert for sixty-three years; dear father of JoAnn Jones (Gary), Jeannette Knight, Walter Schubert Jr. (MaryAnne), and Ted Schubert (Shannon); and the much-loved grandfather of Amy Knight, Erin Delanty (Tim), Becky Knight, Mark Jones (Kim), and Morgan, Sean, and Jackson Schubert. He will always be remembered as "Great Grandpa in Georgia" to Bridget and Shane Delanty and Amelia and Delaney Jones. He was preceded in death by his brother, retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Leland Schubert; daughter-in-law, Jana Johnson Schubert; and beloved daughter, Lisa.
In addition to his immediate family, Walt is survived by his sister-in-law, Martie Schubert; nieces, Sue Hall and Sally Heath; nephews John and Jeff Schubert; cousins; and lifelong friend, Bob Walker of St. Louis, Missouri.
A memorial service will be held in St. Louis, Missouri at a later date with interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
