Walter Mcgee "Giggie" Welch

July 26, 1951 — September 12, 2008

Walter McGee Welch, 93, entered into rest on September 12, 2008.

Mr. Welch was born on July 26, 1915, in Mount Airy, North Carolina. With pride and honor he served in the U.S. Navy and participated in World War II. He was a retired civil servant from Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, various different Masonic organizations, and past president of the Men's Camellia Club of Charleston County. His home church was Mount Airy Friends Meeting. His parents, Walter Presley Welch and Lula Virginia McGee Welch; sister, Clara Bell Welch Brown; and grandson-in-law, Michael Blair, preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Mary Catherine Smith Welch; children, Walter M. Welch, Jr. (Carol), Anderson, South Carolina, and Mary Lou Welch Hilton (Johnny), Kathleen, Georgia; grandchildren, Chris Welch (Emily), Meridith Welch Blair and Alex Hilton; sisters, Helen Welch Hutchens, Mount Airy, North Carolina, and Louise Welch Breeden, Mount Airy, North Carolina.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 14, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, N.C. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2008, in the Mount Airy Friends Meeting, with interment following in Oakdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Mount Airy Friends Meeting, 109 W. Wilson Street, Mount Airy NC 27030, or New Horizon's Building Fund, c/o Central Baptist Church, 1120 Lake Joy Rd, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
