Walter Thomas "Windy" Winchester

Walter Winchester, 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

Mr. Winchester was born on August 10, 1942 in Albany, Georgia to the late Walter and Christine Posey Winchester. Following his graduation from Warner Robins High School in 1962, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He then began his career as an aircraft electrician at Robins Air Force Base. After his retirement from Robins, he worked as a correction officer for Dooly State Prison, retiring after 10 years. Until he became ill, he worked as a security officer at Tolleson Lumber Company. Family was always his highest priority. He always placed a high emphasis on family gatherings and holiday meals together. He also enjoyed leatherworking.

His daughter, Robin Winchester, preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 53 years, Pat Winchester; children, Tracy Pickering (Roger), and Greg Winchester (Sandy), all of Perry; grandchildren, Mark Richardson (Meagan), Jessica Sloat, Ashley Pitzer, Mark “Ben” Ray, Dallas Ray; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Sloat, Colton Sloat, Lana Pitzer, Deacon Pitzer, Malcolm Richardson; brothers, Jerry Winchester, Larry Winchester (Lois), Randy Winchester (Maryanne), and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. After the service, Mr. Winchester will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with military honors.
