Wayne Clayton Etheredge

May 30, 1955 — January 30, 2021

Wayne Clayton Etheredge of Kathleen passed away January 30, 2021. He was 65 years old.

A lifelong Middle Georgia resident, Wayne was born in Macon on May 30, 1955. He was the son of the late John and Virginia Etheredge. He grew up in Macon and graduated from Central High School in 1973. After high school, he trained to become a pipefitter and welder. He worked for the Brown & Williamson and later at R.J. Reynolds until his retirement in 2016. He was a longtime member of the Plumber, Pipefitters and HVACR Technicians Local Union 72. A hardworking man, Wayne was a work smarter, not harder kind of person. If there was a better way to do things, Wayne was the one to figure that out. His personality was such that he possessed an uncanny ability to make people laugh.

When he wasn’t working, Wayne was a dedicated outdoorsman. A member of the Georgia Wilderness Society, he enjoyed canoeing, fishing, hunting, camping and anything else that being outside brought his way. The past several years, Wayne spent his time mentoring others in Alcoholics Anonymous and OneWay at Second Baptist Church. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and John Etheredge, sister, Kathy Adams; and brother, Steve Etheredge.

Wayne is survived by his children, Stephanie Etheredge Perdue (Jim) of Kathleen and Andrew Colton Etheredge of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Jake, Judd, Anna Kate, Sadie and Caroline Perdue; siblings, Warren Etheredge, John Etheredge (Jamorn), and Karen Nunnally (Robert); and several nieces and nephews.
