Whelchel Artis ''Art'' Shadburn

Whelchel Artis ''Art'' Shadburn, 75, entered into rest on Friday, September 16, 2011.

He was born on April 7, 1936 in Buford, Georgia to Nell Smalling Shadburn and Whelchel H. Shadburn, who preceded him in death. His stepson Arn also preceded him in death. During his peacetime tour of duty aboard The Lexington, Whelchel, he fought no battles. The battle he fought and lost, forfeiting his life on September 16, was with cancer. Art was a respected local businessman. Under his trade name, Asai Upholstery, Art had a long history of unique and original creations in the auto and aircraft interior upholstery industry.

Although he was a compassionate, loving husband, father, and grandfather, Art's greatest love and joy was in his worship of Jehovah God. As one of the J. W.'s, he participated in many of the Kingdom Hall Building Sites in Macon and surrounding towns. He was also volunteered after the Flood of 1994 and with the Coastal Hurricane Relief. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his family and friends.

Art is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Rowena Poole Shadburn, Macon; brother, Tom Shadburn, Macon; sisters, Marjorie Lawrence, St. Simons and Norma Jean Mock, Bainbridge, Georgia; son, Frank Shadburn, Macon and daughter, Laura Raphoon, Costa Mesa, California; mother, Diane French; stepchildren, Michele Matthews and Dag A. Matthews, both of Macon; grandchildren, Jonathan, Chrystal, and Jason Shadburn, Janz and James Justice, Joseph Wynn, Mason and Savannah Matthews, Stephan and Caitlin Barcus; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel Coleman, Aiden Barcus, and Bladen Wynn.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 5215 Log Cabin Drive, Macon. C. R. Folsom will officiate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
