Wilford Carroll, Sr. went to his heavenly home on the evening of February 7, 2021, at the age of 90.
A disciplined and well-respected man, Wilford was a part of the “greatest generation”. He was born in Danville, Georgia, on April 27, 1930, to the late Willy Jesse Carroll and Lizzie Nora Howell Carroll. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force. He then made a career as an inspector and scheduler in civil service at Robins Air Force Base, retiring after 38 years.
Wilford loved fun music and was passionate about playing it for others. He spent many years volunteering his musical services at various nursing homes in the Middle Georgia area. For 18 years, he was also a volunteer at Warner Robins Rehabilitation Center. Wilford wasn’t a man who hired someone to tend to his yard and until the age of 88, he did his own yard work; a hobby he thoroughly enjoyed. Wilford was a dedicated Atlanta Braves fan, even through the rocky years. He was a member of Assembly at Warner Robins Church for many years. Wilford had a soft spot for his animals but most importantly, he was a family man and a wonderful, doting father and grandfather.
Left to cherish the memory of a devoted husband, father, and grandfather are his wife of 66 years, Betty Carroll; son, David Carroll (Karen) of Byron; daughter, Terry Carroll Atkinson (Lee A.) of Burlington, North Carolina; and grandsons, Jeremy Atkinson and Nathaniel Atkinson.
