William A. Jenkins, Jr., 81, died Thursday, February 7 at Peachbelt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, February 11 in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00pm Sunday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, 250 S. Davis Dr., Warner Robins, 31088.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Long Leaf, LA. He was retired from both the U.S. Air Force and later from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflicts, having served in both the United States Marine Corp and Air Force. From July 1940 to December 1940 he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. In February of 1943 his Marine Corp service began and continued until January of 1945. During this time he served in New Zealand, the British Solomon Islands, Marshall Islands, and Marianas Island. He received the Longevity Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, Naval Unit Citation, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, as well as the Small Arms Expert and Marksmanship Ribbons. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Jenkins, Sr. and Martha Carroll Jenkins.
Survivors include his wife, Simone Poincet Jenkins; daughter, Sonia Davis, O’Fallon, IL; step-son, Marc Guillet, Warner Robins; sisters, Rose Granger, Woodville,TX; Verda Ruff, Long Leaf, LA; Martha Chevalier, Glenmora, LA; brother, Dewey Jenkins, Long Leaf, LA; and his grandchildren, Jessica, Joe and Pierre, of O’Fallon, IL and McGuire AFB, NJ.
