William "Billy" Benjamin left his earthly body and entered eternal life on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Houston Healthcare Complex.
Billy was born in Springfield, Illinois to Mary Alice Bollman and the late Lyle Robert Benjamin. He attended Dixie Hollands High School in St. Petersburg, FL. Billy began his life in music while in high school where he played the drums. He then began playing and singing around St. Petersburg, FL, until he entered the Marines. Billy served in the Vietnam War from 1967-1973 and continued to proudly support all armed services throughout his life. Semper Fidelis!
Upon his return from Vietnam, Billy returned to music. Touring with Tommy Overstreet out of Nashville TN, playing around St. Pete, Tampa, and Citrus County for 30 years. He also worked for 10 years at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida and retired as a Grounds Maintenance Technician from Citrus County. Billy was a proud, life member of the VFW and was active with the local chapters in several Florida cities.
Billy is survived by his mother, Mary Bollman Benjamin, Springfield, IL; his wife, Pam Benjamin, Warner Robins, GA; his son, Sean Robert Benjamin (Lisa), Floral City, FL; daughter, Ashley Ryan Benjamin, St. Petersburg, FL; several grandchildren; step grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Billy will be missed by all who love him, especially his family.
Services will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, at a later date.
