William E. Hayes

Byron – William Earl Hayes, 78, died January 29, 2004 at 2:40 p.m. in his home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 at Magnolia Park Cemetery with interment following. Rev. Sam P. Lamback and Curtis West will officiate. The family will receive visitors at 275 Choctaw Lane, Byron, Ga. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Vista Care, 750 Baconsfield DR, Macon, Ga., 31211.

Born in Owensboro, Kentucky, Mr. Hayes was a former resident of Warner Robins. He retired with 33 years of service from A&P Tea Co. as a market manager. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Mingo Submarine, earning the USN Submarine Pin with three gold stars, the Presidential Unit Citation Award, and the Asiatic Liberation Ribbon. He was a member of the V.F.W., Moose Lodge, and an avid ham radio & C.B. operator. He was also a member of the Second Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doyce Marjorie Hayes, and parents, Veatchel Floyd Hayes and Florence Pate Lott.

Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Axton, Byron; sons, James Earl Hayes, Roberta, and William Jerome Hayes, Warner Robins; brother, Floyd Hayes, Jr., ; sister, Nancy Henderson; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
