William George Barnes, Sr., 63, entered into rest on Sunday, April 5, 2009.
Mr. Barnes was born on August 23, 1945 in Gastonia, North Carolina. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army, participated in the Vietnam Conflict and achieved the rank of Sergeant. The recipient of three Purple Hearts, he was stationed at Fort Brag. After his military career, he worked at Robins Air Force Base in civil service and C&F Heating and Cooling in Warner Robins. His step-son, Randy Jenkins, and parents, Wade Barnes and Ruth Taylor Barnes, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of twenty-five years, Vickie Smith Barnes, Warner Robins; children, William Barnes, Jr., Sherry Gaston and Dennis E. Barnes, all Gastonia, North Carolina; grandchildren, Chrissy Barnes, Tasha Barnes, Heather Gaston, Dennis Shane Barnes, Brandie Barnes, Zackery Barnes and Mikayla Barnes; step-son, Michael Ray Jenkins, Warner Robins; and step-father, Dewey Bolick, Gastonia.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Parkway Memorial Gardens with military honors, Reverend Tommy Toler officiating.
