William J. "Bill" Polk, Sr., 78, entered into rest on Sunday, October 26, 2008.
Mr. Polk was born on September 24, 1930, in Sandersville. He retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base as a Personnel Classification Specialist. With pride and honor he served his country in the U.S. Navy, and in the mid-sixties at the Naval Ordinance Plant. An accomplished artist, he was a charter member of Shirley Hills Baptist Church. His brother, Frank Polk, and parents, Josiah I. Polk and Sara Jenkins Polk, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Patricia Hamrick Polk; daughters, Patti Polk King (David) and Traci N. Polk, Warner Robins; son, William J. Polk, Jr., Smyrna; granddaughter, Lea King; and brothers, Joe Polk, Douglas, Dan Polk, Brunson, South Carolina, Ed Polk, Warner Robins, and Lewis Wright, Warner Robins.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 29, 2008, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2008, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Reverend Andy Cook and Reverend Napp Granade will be officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Shirley Hills Baptist Church-Building Fund, 615 Corder Rd, Warner Robins GA 31088, or to the American Lung Association of GA, 2452 Spring Road, Smyrna, GA 30080-3862.
