William Lamar Hanners, Sr., 80, departed this earth on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, following a brave and hard fought seven-week battle against surgical complications. It became his time to return to God for total healing.
Mr. Hanners was born on July 21, 1928 in Opelika, Alabama. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army Reserves and was called to service in the Korean Conflict twice. He worked as a civil servant as Warehouse Foreman and retired from Robins Air Force Base. He was a charter member of Sandy Valley Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty years, Bettye G. Hanners; parents, Daniel Lee Hanners and Gladys Riddle Hanners; and two children, Michael Desi Hanners and Barbara Jean Hanners.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Linda Eury (with whom he resided for six years), Daniel Lee (Carolyn) Hanners, II, Perry; William L. (Sherry) Hanners, Apopka, Florida, Timothy Drew (Duanna) Hanners, Lucas, Texas, and Anthony Bruce Hanners, Maryland; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 22, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2009 in McCullough Funeral Home Chapel, Reverend Phil Bryant officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.
