Mr. William M. Hayes died Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 24, at Shirley Hills Baptist Church with interment following in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Reverend Andy Cook will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at McCullough Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Shirley Hills Walk Through Bethlehem Fund, 615 Corder Road, Warner Robins, GA, 31088.
Mr. Hayes was born in Loxley, Alabama. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served his country in both the Merchant Marine Corp and the Army. He was retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. Mr. Hayes was a Charter Member of Shirley Hills Baptist Church where he was a Deacon Emeritus, a member of the Keenagers Sr. Adult Group and the Keenagers Chorus, and had been currently helping with the nursery. He was a member of the Charlie Barfield Sunday School class and had taught the Eighth Grade Boys Sunday School class for many years. His parents, George Washington Hayes and Nora Blair Hayes, and brother, Ira Lee Hayes, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Icard Hayes, Warner Robins; sons and daughters-in-law, William Keith and Barbara Hayes, Byron; George Victor and Brenda M. Hayes, Warner Robins; Michael Wayne and Robin Hayes, Warner Robins; daughter, Donna Clark, Centerville; sister, Ollie Mae Thorton, Bay Minette, AL; brother, Fletcher Hayes, Irvington, AL; sister, Beatrice Unrue, Grand Bay, AL; brother, Arthur Hays; grandchildren, Lisa Houston, Julie Hayes, Miranda Anderson, Chris Hayes, Johnnie Hayes, Angela Hayes; and also five great-grandchildren.
