William M. Lavender

January 22, 1928 — August 17, 2010

William M. "Billy" Lavender, Sr., 82, passed away at his home in Warner Robins on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, after an extended illness.

Visitation for Mr. Lavender will be Friday, August 20, 2010, between the hours of 11:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins. Graveside services for Mr. Lavender will be held at 1:30 P.M. at Perry Memorial Gardens, located on Highway 41, north of Perry, with the Reverend Sidney McLeod officiating.

Mr. Lavender is survived by his wife and best friend of forty-three years, Marion Lavender; daughter Mary Smoot (Jack) of Dahlonega, daughter Kathy Lynn Brewer (Robert) of Warner Robins, and son William M. Lavender, Jr. (Bill) of Byron; grandchildren, Bob Wallace of Dahlonega, Katie and Josh Brewer of Warner Robins, Jacob and Elisa Lavender of Byron; great grandchildren, Carter, Ean, Gwyneth and Alexandria Wallace; sisters Betty Daniel and Senora Nicholls (Randall) of Milledgeville; several nephews, nieces. Mr. Lavender is preceded in death by his daughter Carolyn Adams of Dahlonega; parents Clemons and Callie Lavender of Milledgeville; brother Joe Lavender of Milledgeville; and sister Evelyn Iverson (Dick) of Oxnard, California.

Originally from Wilkinson County, Billy was an automotive painter for forty-five years. He worked in and was well known throughout the middle Georgia area. He retired from Charlie Pike Chevrolet in Warner Robins in 1991. He was a master craftsman and an artist in his trade. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and bird hunter. He loved to be with his family and stayed close with his old friends. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. Mr. Lavender was treated for his ailments at the Houston Medical Center prior to coming home on Monday. His caretakers from the 4th floor were "Angels sent from above". In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Houston Medical Center Auxiliary, 1601 Watson Blvd, Warner Robins Georgia 31088.
