Mr. William Waldhauer, 76, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2007 under the loving care of family and friends.
Mr. Waldhauer was born on July 28, 1930 in Savannah, Georgia. Obie was the youngest of six children born to Bickerton Winston Waldhauer, Sr. and Maude Cone Waldhauer. He graduated from Georgia Military Academy and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a commissioned officer in the Army Reserve. He was a Ceramic Engineer with the Naval Ordinance Plant in Macon and retired as a Mechanical Engineer from Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA. His true vocation was potter, having received numerous awards and recognitions for his pottery, jewelry and sculpture. He married Marian Elisabeth, daughter of Johnny and Doris Corbett of Rome, GA on December 21, 1967.
During his long and faithful service in the Episcopal Church, Obie served in many capacities including Lay Reader Warden, Lector and Sunday School Warden. He was a member of the Atlanta Episcopal Cursillo Community; a mentor in the Education for Ministry Program, School of Theology, University of the South in Sewanee, TN; and a Trainer of Serendipity Small Group Bible Study Leaders. Although a “cradle” Episcopalian, he spent his last years supporting the work of Grace Fellowship Church of Warner Robins, Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church of Warner Robins and Beth Yeshua Messianic Congregation in Macon, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Winston, John and David Waldhauer and his sisters, Margaret Jefferson and Louise Mills.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marian Waldhauer, Centerville; son, Kenneth Waldhauer (Wendy), Savannah; daughter, Villane Waldhauer, Milledgeville; stepsons, Eddie Parker (Mandy), Powder Springs; Wes Parker (Joan), Shelby, NC; his first wife and mother of his children, Jane Waldhauer, Milledgeville; sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah. Family and friends who wish to share their memories or give a brief eulogy will be given the opportunity to speak during the funeral service.
