William R. Peters of Warner Robins, GA died peacefully on May 27, 2004. Mr. Peters was born in West Decatur, PA on August 29, 1922. During his youth he was an active member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC’s) in PA. He then joined the Army Air Corps during WWII and served in the China-Burma-India Theater campaign.
After his military service, he was a Civil Service Logistics Officer at Robins AFB for 39 years. Following his retirement from Civil Service, he became a charter volunteer at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins. He served in that capacity, dedicating over 4000 hours to the museum and its patrons. Prior to his illness, he was often seen guiding visitors and school groups around the Museum complex. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sarah Dawson Peters.
His devoted daughter Kathryn L. Peters of Warner Robins and son Dennis W. Peters (Robyn) of Warner Robins survive him along with his granddaughter Danielle E. Peters of Warner Robins and his sister Betty Snyder of Pennsylvania. He was “Papa” to Ron Kuitko (April) of Warner Robins, Dawn (Greg) Backus of Virginia, and their mother Judy Cooper (Russ) of Warner Robins. His step-grandchildren Maisy and Logan McDonald of Warner Robins and Perry Ivey (Julie) of Atlanta also survive him as well as his great grandchildren, Jaden LeShay Peters of Warner Robins, Alex and Sarah Elizabeth Kuitko of Warner Robins, GA and Brittney Backus of Virginia. “Mr. Bill” is also survived by his extended family, the staff of Gramps ‘n’ Grannies.
Visitation will be from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, May 29 at McCullough Funeral Home. Memorial services and a Celebration of Life will take place at the First Christian Church on North Houston Road in Warner Robins at 3:30 PM on Sunday, May 30, 2004, the Reverend Vandervort officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins or the charity of their choice. The family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation to the staff of Gramps ‘n’ Grannies Personal Care Facility in Warner Robins for the loving, devoted care and compassion they have shown him and his family and friends for the past 3 years.
