William R. Updegraff

William R. Updegraff, 82, entered the gates of heaven on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

William was born on August 12, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to the late William and Anna Updegraff. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a pilot during the Korean War. After his service in the Navy, William began working for the United States Government in Civil Service. He held many positions before retiring as the GS14 Section Chief of Plant Services. He was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, president of the Joy Jubilee Sunday School Class, and helped with the Helping Hands Ministry and XYZ's at Second Baptist. William was a board member at Happy Hour for many years and volunteered for the Special Olympics Organization. In his spare time he enjoyed flying his plane, gardening, landscaping, and most of all loved spending time with his grandson, Brice.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia; and a step-daughter, Angela Cadwell.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 42 years, Alva Updegraff of Bonaire; son, Howard Updegraff of Washington; step-son, Derrick Cadwell of Elko; grandson, Brice Cadwell; and two siblings; his brother, Warren, and sister, Jane.

Visitation will be Friday, March 6, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at 4:00 p.m. in Plainfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Plainfield, Georgia.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given In Memory of William Updegraff to Houston County Association for Exceptional Citizens (Happy Hour), 716 Young Ave., Warner Robins, GA; and either Helping Hands or the Building Fund at Second Baptist Church, 2504 Moody Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
