William T. "Bill" Meeks, Sr.

July 1, 1931 — August 26, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, William T. “Bill” Meeks, Sr. He passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the age of 90.

Born on July 1, 1931, in Soperton, GA, Bill was the son of the late James Bell and Nora Belle Schwalls Meeks. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he served with the Fifth Regimental Combat Team. Bill went on to retire from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base as an Aircraft Section Chief. He loved his Savior and was a faithful and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins. He was an active member of the Winmore Sunday School Class and also served the church in various roles from camera operator to Chairman of the Trustees. Bill also enjoyed serving as a Mason with the Macon Lodge #5. Bill was a dedicated husband, father and “Papa.” One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved quail hunting, fishing and golfing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Bridges and brothers, Charles Meeks, Harold Meeks, and Richard Meeks.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Doris Marie Meeks; children, Carol M. Thomas (Bickle) of Rocky Ford, GA and William T. “Billy” Meeks, Jr. (Heather) of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Jonathan Thomas, Nathan Thomas, Kristen Thomas, Abbey Meeks and Emery Meeks; brother, Arthur Meeks of Warner Robins; sisters-in-law, Sue Landers and Annette Turpen, both of Clarkesville, GA; and several adoring nieces and nephews.

Bill will be privately laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery with a graveside service for his family. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Bill to First United Methodist Church, Warner Robins, 205 N. Davis Dr., Warner Robins, GA 31093. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Encompass Health Hospice for their care and support.
