William Terrance "Terry" Clifton, Sr.

William Terrance “Terry” Clifton passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on the evening of Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the age of 76. He was the son of the late Worth and Colleen Clifton.

Born on December 18, 1946 and raised in Macon, GA, Terry was a Lanier High School alumnus where he excelled in baseball, football and track. He also participated as a Lieutenant in Lanier High’s JROTC and was proud to be the starting centerfielder for the 1965 State Championship Baseball team; he graduated in 1965. Following high school graduation, Terry attended Southern Tech College in Marietta. There, he played baseball while working a co-op with Bibb Manufacturing.

In March of 1970, Terry took on a career with Delta Airlines at Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Macon. He worked there until 1986, then transferred to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Terry retired from Delta Airlines in April of 1999 after a long and rewarding career.

In his free time, Terry enjoyed umpiring girls’ high school fast pitch softball games, boys’ Little League Baseball games, Georgia high school baseball games and high school State Playoff games; America’s favorite pastime was forever in his blood. When Terry wasn’t on the ballfield, you could find him deer hunting, fishing, golfing or cheering for his Georgia Bulldogs (GO DAWGS!) and Atlanta Braves. He looked forward to gathering with old friends from his high school teams twice a month for lunch, as well.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William T. “Tee” Clifton, Jr.; his father-in-law, Milton H. Brooks, Sr.; his brother-in-law, Danny Leslie; and his niece, Wendy Leslie.

Those left to cherish Terry’s memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Cindy Clifton of Warner Robins; children, Traci Elizabeth Clifton of Lizella, Lauren Hope Barnhill (Justin) of Warner Robins and Kevin Brooks Clifton (Macy) of Cartersville, GA; grandchildren, Kyle Brooks (Maggie), Quinton Underwood, Will Underwood, Mason Pope, Ellie Barnhill, Emily Barnhill, Karlie Clifton, Kaisen Clifton and Grayson Clifton; great-grandchildren, Catherine Brooks and Teddy Brooks; siblings, Pam Clifton Leslie, Karen Clifton Doss (David) and Tim Clifton (Joy); mother-in-law, Jeanette Brooks; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and dog, Lucy.

Terry’s family will receive visitors for a memorial gathering on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Hamlin officiating.
