William Vanzant, Sr.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, December 29, 2016, 75-year-old William Vanzant went to be with the Lord.

William was born on April 22, 1941 in Ideal, Georgia to the late James and Doris Vanzant. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his active duty service, he began his career in civil service as a contracting officer at Robins Air Force base where he retired after 30 years. William was an avid sports fan of all kinds; he especially loved the New York Yankees. William would wake up every morning and make his way to the Huddle House for breakfast and fellowship with his friends. He also enjoyed watching westerns and loved dogs. However, his greatest joy was found in family and most particularly in being an adoring "papa" to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His memory will forever be treasured by his son, Bobby Vanzant, Jr. of Clearwater, Florida; step-daughter, Stacy Vickery of Cleveland, Georgia; granddaughter, Maria Barrandey of Warner Robins; grandsons, Michael and Landon Vickery of Cleveland, Georgia; great-grandson, Carson Barrandey of Warner Robins; son-in-law, Joel Barrandey of Warner Robins; sisters, Dean Price and Hazel Vanzant, all of Montezuma, and other family, Mary White of Warner Robins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. At the family's request burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of William Vanzant, Sr. to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Suite A, Macon, GA 31201.
