Wylene Leverett Hester, beloved mother, grandmother and “Great Grand,” passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Church Home LifeSpring Rehab, after a short illness. She was born in Houston County, Georgia, on June 10, 1933. Wylene spent her life raising four children and loved spending time with each of her grandchildren and great-grands. She loved making crafts, spending time with family and friends, shopping at Hobby Lobby and eating catfish. Wylene brought laughter and joy to everyone and always saw the good in everyone. She was a faithful servant of the Baptist faith and a devout Christian. Wylene was a precious lady who loved the Lord.
Wylene was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Lynwood Leverett and Faithy Elizabeth Leverett; her husband of 17 years, Walter Lee Hester; and her companion of 40 years, Howard O. “Bo” Holland. She was also preceded in death by 14 siblings, Wiley, Buster, Earl, Crowell and JB Leverett, Sallie V. Self, Hattie Ammons, Mary Wilkes, Doris Christian, HL Leverett, Dorothy Mills, Ethel Leverett (George “Buddy) and Bobby Leverett.
Wylene is survived by her children, David Hester (Janice), Marsha Cromer, Brenda Dillard and Charlene Hallman; grandchildren, Clint Cromer, Andy Joe Hester, Clay Cromer, Brandon Dillard, Brittany Haskell, Jesi Hallman and Heath Hallman; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dewey Leverett and Benny Leverett (Yvonne); and many special nieces, nephews, friends and lifelong acquaintances.
A special ‘thanks’ goes to Tammy Hough and the staff at Kingsford Assisted Living in Centerville for the care they showed during Wylene’s last years of life.
With regards to services for Mrs. Hester: social distancing measures will be in place as McCullough Funeral Home has a responsibility to our families, staff, and the community, to be as safe as possible. That said, visitation will be Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Wylene will be laid to rest with a graveside funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021, in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
